BANSKO

Although a
tourist destination, Bansko is first and foremost a normal everyday working
town, it's not a purpose built ski resort like so many of its competitors. So from that respect it is very easy
to get the feel of the 'real' Bulgaria. The picturesque town centre has kept alive its
centuries old traditional way
of decorating the houses, with its stone and wood
clad buildings and its cobbled streets. Winding your way through some of
the towns picturesque back streets is an educational look into the past, with
the high walls and decorative gates, almost all cobbled back streets lead to a
square. There are
also said to be nearly 360 Mehana's (restaurants) so finding somewhere to eat
should never be a problem. The town square which has fountains and waterfalls
has many cafes and snack bars bordering it where you will find the typical
street cafe culture of Bulgarian life.

Bansko has something to offer people of all ages and interest. From internet rooms and nightclubs to museums and monuments. Each Sunday there is also a large open air market where you can buy anything from new shoes & clothes to cow bells & second hand tools.
